This dining table boasts a 6 cm thick wooden top that was crafted from a reclaimed teak beam, recovered from a vintage house located in Ayutthaya, the historic capital of Thailand. The wood has been expertly bleached multiple times to achieve a bright appearance. To ensure its lasting effect, the top has been sealed with several layers of natural hard-wax oil, which not only protects the wood but also helps preserve its distinctive bleached color. Mounted on a sand cast brass base add to the strength of the table. The wood naturally bring warmth and character to any dining space, whether it's a beachfront home or an urban apartment.
Reclaimed wood

We are ideally placed to go wood-hunting. Every month or so we organize a sourcing trip along 2nd and 3rd generation wood shops in remote villages, meeting locals who buy up abandoned houses, rice-barns and forgotten structures, often dating back 100 years. While Thailand has no wood industry left, it was spoiled for choice and quality in the good old days. Some of the best exotic tropical woods were available and it is our Mission to score these and turn vintage floors, beams, and pillars into truly unique furniture. We buy our wood in very small quantities, often just enough for one table: truly reclaimed and truly unique furniture.
Unique one-off
Every FTOP table or bench we create is indeed unique, and this shows. We use traditional wood-working techniques to join massive beams and refrain from levelling the bottom of the table. We naturally sand to remove splinters but we want our clients to see we use genuinely old wood, not machine-made-to-look-to-be-reclaimed wood. The top-edges are the perfect witness, uneven, almost Brutalist at times, but always unique and very touchy-feely. Bottoms and tops will more often than not show imperfections we cherish: traces of the past: old wooden pegs, old joinery, some restored holes, all signs of the woods previous life. We also refrain from using big belt-sanders, which means you will see and feel our hands when you check the surface. And re-check. Re-check...
Real wood, no veneers
Very few pieces of furniture are still being created with real high quality hardwood. While we take every precaution and carefully match humidity levels with international standards, we can never forego the fact that wood is a living, breathing material which will be influenced by excessive temperature and humidity fluctuations. There is always a chance that wood will retract or expand slightly with the changing of the seasons. Rest assured: to date we only received two remarks from worried client in eight years and in both cases, we advised how to remedy.
Important notes
Wood finish
We have yet to come across The perfect wood-finish. Prior to establishing P. Tendercool in 2009 our family had been antique dealers for over 50 years. We know a thing or two about Old Wood. Eli, our antiques restorer from Belgium, flew over to train our Thai carpenters in traditional Western wood-finishing-techniques. While we can offer Wax, home-made Hot-Wax and are experts in true French Polishing, about 95% of our clients prefer an oil finish. Should you prefer a completely waterproof finish, you may opt for Water-based Polyurethane. All finishes have pros and cons, feel free to enquire for more detail. But fear not: no white gloves are needed to enjoy your furniture! Just use a bit of common sense: do not let spilled liquids sink in over-night, do not place hot pots and pans directly on the wood. Should you consider buying one of our creations we will explain the do's and don'ts in detail.

A client commissioned a desk which hearken back to the Chinese heritage of using a single slab of Chicken Wing Wood collection as a table top. This wood has a unique grain “like feathers of a bird”, hence named “Chicken-Wing” by the Chinese. The wood is normally quite dark, through bleaching the contrast between darker and lighter tones becomes more visible, with this striking result. We bleached the wood slightly to bring out the grain and applied a natural oiled finish.
The wood slabs which is at least one hundred years old and mounted on our classic PT2 legs in sculptured bronze to evoke an old-world charm.

The golden teak wood is cherished in Thailand for its golden hue and is reserved only for exclusive traditional houses. The color is achieved not by us, we have no part in this natural process! Only through years of maturing in suitable climate, the wood grain will develop this particular shade of gold hidden away in the core of the tree. We had a chance to recuperate columns that used to support an old house in Thailand’s northern capital, Chiang Mai. Something that does not come by very often.
Our client love wood as much as we do, naturally, her dining table has to be Golden Teak. We beveled the edges for a clean line and rounding the corner to soften the table. Mounted on solid brass base in brushed brown finish creating a gentle floating effect for the dining space.

We created this large dining table for a large family who appreciates the natural way. Live edge was the name of the game. A single slab of Teak wood came in completely distressed. We clean up and leveled the top before determining how we are going to make this table. With respect to natural form of the tree, we kept the live edge and chiseled the edges by hand following the wood line. Floating effortlessly on our PT12 sand cast brass base will make the any dining room feels special.

The English oval dining table was crafted from reclaimed Ching Chan wood, a rare rosewood family we sourced from an old house near the ancient Thai capital of Ayutthaya (P. Tendercool is based in Thailand). Traditionally Ching Chan wood are use in decorative furniture throughout royal courts in Asia and prized for its hardness and waxy appearance. The wood is so durable that many of the Ming and Qing dynasties heirloom survived through the centuries in almost mint condition up to this day. The property of this wood allows us to create a sleek profile while durable table that can withstand everyday use. We beveled the edges following the contour of the elliptical shape using CNC cutting and hand sand until the table is leveled to perfection. A local jewelry designer and wood collector has a beautiful slab of 10-cm-thick solid teak and wanted to turn it into a beautiful table. A little bird told him to come to P. Tendercool and thus began the journey of this table.
We worked alongside him to find the perfect shade of wood finish for his table. We did a few test run on an off-cut and showed it to him. He decided to bleach and finish the wood in Diamond Oil. The result was a warm sand dune shade that beautifully complements our Golden Sand bases.
When he saw the table, he was impressed to say the least. Making table is our specialty after all – our motto: “We make tables and we make them well”.

This table graduates with flying colors: a rare antique slab of Chicken-wing wood, slightly bleached, sanded and oiled,
mounted on a blackened sand-cast aluminum base (pur PT2 model).
We let the materials do the talking: few textures would beat the appeal of a very fine piece of wood, in particular more than a century old chicken-wing wood.
No decoration needed.
