About the Item

Born Monterrey, Mexico 1991. Graduated from the Bachelor of Arts at the University of Monterrey. (2014) Andrés uses ceramics as a medium to create amorphous beings that seem to belong to a known ecosystem but result unrecognizable because they are extracted from abstract imagination. The volume, the relief and the excessive texture require that pieces always have different angles of appreciation, seeing them is an exercise of recognition and an invitation to understand what we do not know. His work has participated in numerous exhibitions in the city of Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City, of which the Emerging Art Biennial and the UNAM Biennial stand out, samples in which he received Honorable Mentions. His work has also been exhibited in different cities in the United States, Italy and Denmark.

Admirers of Jeremy Thomas’ sculpture should be grateful to a thief. Thomas came to the College of Santa Fe to study Studio Arts as a painter and printmaker, both of which he had been doing since high school, even apprenticing with a master printmaker in his native Oklahoma. However, one semester while moving out of his dormitory, with boxes and bags piled around, the wooden box which held all of his brushes and painting supplies...

Dom Pérignon Balloon Venus

Balloon Dog is an iconic work within the highly acclaimed Celebration series, which JEFF KOONS began in the mid 1990s. The Celebration artworks reference certain times of year (holidays and birthdays) but also the celebration of the cycle of life. What else could suggest the cheer of children’s parties more eloquently than a colorful balloon, twisted into the instantly recognizable form of a dog. According to the artist, “It is about celebration and childhood and color and simplicity – but it’s also a Trojan horse. It’s a Trojan horse to the whole body of art work.” Balloon Dog has the profoundness of an archaic sculpture. The monumental Balloon Dog sculptures...
