Very rare and excellent porcelain sculpture:
Kaendler created the group Apollo and Python as a triangular composition in March and May of1774. Apollo stands in the highest place as the radiant victor over the dragon Python and over the personification of envy, both of whom lie slain at his feet. To the left, Minerva sits as the goddess of prudent war, turning her gaze to the hero. Dressed in helmet and armor, she carries a spear in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, while the owl next to her right foot indicates her identity as Pallas Athena. Just like Apollo, the tsarina protected by Minerva is supposed to leave the envious behind and always triumph over evil.
The group is based on stepped, irregular, yet symmetrical, partially curved base with gold raised frieze decoration and was made in two parts, which were then joined and screwed together.

Depiction of the merely cloth-covered, bearded and crowned god Hephaestus (Roman: Vulcanus) seated centrally on a rock, holding a long-handled hammer beside him and looking off to the side, surrounded by winged putti representing activities from his trade: Patronizing the entire artistic spectrum of metalworking, including the production of jewelry, weapons, sacred-ritual and profane utilitarian objects, the one helping putto to his right is busy firing a cannon made of metal, to his left another putto is forging on an anvil with the help of a hammer and tongs, in front of him, at his feet are presented ornately crafted war ornaments such as a helmet and shield, at the back a putto holds small torches in both hands.

Copper engraving of the downfall of the Spanish Armada of the ‘Onoverwinnelijke Vloot’, between 31 July and 12 August 1588. Naval battle between the Spanish and combined English and Dutch fleets in the canal. In the foreground, there is a large Spanish frigate being shot at by a small Dutch ship with the banner of the city of Leiden; on the left, there is a galley.
In particular, the engraving details shows the battle of Gravelines as the English sought to disrupt the Spanish fleet as it lay in wait for the army to board her ships. The fireships can be seen in the middle-right of the picture. It gives a feel for the compactness of the fleet and the disruption that the English hoped to cause in breaking it up.

• The use of silk, patterning and size suggests that these striking Bargello hangings were almost certainly conceived as bed curtains. In the Green Chamber at Parham House the State Bed is hung with Bargello curtains, pelmets and valences c1620. Like the Parham bed curtains, the Spetchley Park bed curtains have two horizontal pattern repeats in each drop. Needless to say, surviving bed curtains from this period are exceptionally rare as they had value as hangings and for upholstering domestic objects when removed from the bed.
• The Spetchley Park bed curtains are really beautiful and luxurious. They were made as elite objects and have not lost their gravitas or their character and charm.
• The Spetchley Park bed curtains were adapted into wall hangings in the 19th century. They are versatile and could easily be reinstated as curtains or panels within larger curtains.
• Bargello work has a classic timeless quality to it and blends with most decorative schemes whether period or contemporary
Each panel is made from two sections of bargello.
