Window on Another Dimension, signed/n lithograph by Picasso's famous mistress
Located in New York, NY
Françoise Gilot Window on Another Dimension, 1981 Lithograph on Arches mould made Johannot paper Signed and numbered in graphite pencil; also bears artist's monogram with date, edition of 60 Frame included: floated in the original vintage frame Measurements: Framed 30 inches vertical by 22 inches horizontal by .75 inches depth Artwork: 27.25 inches by 19.75 inches Francoise Gilot was not just Picasso's muse; she was an accomplished artist in her own right, and at age 100, the New York Times dubbed her the art world's latest "It Girl".! Signed and numbered in graphite pencil; also bears artist's personal monograph with date. Held in original vintage frame under plexiglass. Charmingly, there is a sticker label on the back of the frame, from the "Picasso Gallery Custom Framing" in D.C. This silkscreen is based upon Gilot's eponymous painting, also done in 1981 Excerpt from Alan Riding's 2023 New York Times obituary on Gilot: " Françoise Gilot, an accomplished painter whose art was eclipsed by her long and stormy romantic relationship with a much older Pablo Picasso, and who alone among his many mistresses walked out on him, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Manhattan. She was 101...But unlike his two wives and other mistresses, Ms. Gilot rebuilt her life after she ended the relationship, in 1953, almost a decade after it had begun despite an age difference of 40 years. She continued painting and exhibiting her work and wrote books. In 1970, she married Jonas Salk, the American medical researcher who developed the first safe polio vaccine, and lived part of the time in California. Still, it was for her romance with Picasso that the public knew her best, particularly after her memoir, “Life with Picasso,” written with Carlton Lake, was published in 1964. It became an international best seller, and so infuriated Picasso that he broke off all contact with Ms. Gilot and their two children, Claude and Paloma Picasso. Ms. Gilot’s frank and often-sympathetic account of their relationship — she dedicated the book “to Pablo” — provided much of the material for the 1996 Merchant-Ivory movie, “Surviving Picasso,” in which she was played by Natascha McElhone, with Anthony Hopkins as Picasso. If Ms. Gilot’s book sold well, so has her art. With her work in more than a dozen museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, her paintings fetched increasingly higher prices well into her later years. As recently as June 2021, her painting “Paloma à la Guitare” (1965), a blue-toned portrait of her daughter, sold for $1.3 million in an online auction by Sotheby’s. That surpassed her previous record price, $695,000, paid for “Étude bleue,” a 1953 portrait of a seated woman, at a Sotheby’s auction in 2014.. And in November 2021, her abstract 1977 canvas “Living Forest” sold for $1.3 million as part of a retrospective of her work at Christie’s in Hong Kong. Lisa Stevenson, the head of curated sales for Sotheby’s in London, told ARTnews after the 2021 auction, “It isn’t commonly known that Gilot’s commitment to art was present long before her relationship with Pablo Picasso, and she was sadly often left in his shadow.”.. Marie Françoise Gilot was born into a prosperous family on Nov. 26, 1921, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris, the only child of Emile Gilot, an agronomist and chemical manufacturer, and Madeleine Renoult-Gilot. Her 19th-century ancestors had owned a couturier house of fashion whose clientele included Eugenia, the wife of Emperor Napoleon III. Marie Françoise was drawn to art from an early age, tutored by her mother, who had studied art history, ceramics and watercolor painting. Her father, however — recalled by Ms. Gilot as an authoritarian who had forced her to write with her right hand, though she was left-handed — had other ideas. Envisioning a career in science or the law for his daughter, he persuaded her to enroll at the University of Paris, where she received her bachelor’s degree in 1938 at age 17. She went on to study at the Sorbonne and the British Institute in Paris and receive a degree in English literature from Cambridge University. As war crept closer to France in 1939, her father sent her to the city of Rennes, northwest of Paris, to enroll in law school. All the while she continued working on her paintings. Then came the German occupation of Paris, in June 1940, and she joined other students in an anti-German protest march at the Arc de Triomphe. In a clash with the French and German authorities, Ms. Gilot was arrested, briefly detained and put under watch. “From day one, we were not the kind of people who would become collaborators,” she said of her family. She continued her law studies at the University of Paris, but after taking her second-year examinations, in June 1941, she lost interest and abandoned the field, deciding to devote herself to art. She began private lessons with a fugitive Hungarian Jewish painter, Endre Rozsda, and attended classes at the Académie Julian, which numbered Matisse...

Pin Up Girl with Red Hat, untitled, original pinup vintage poster
Located in Spokane, WA
Original Pin-Up Girl with Red Hat vintage pin-up poster. Artist: Billy Devorss. Size: 15.25" x 20". Archival linen backed in mint condition; ready to frame. This striking original poster displays a graceful model wearing a vibrant red sun hat against a light blue background. This is truly a lovely piece! Billy DeVorss (1908 – 1985) was a self-taught illustration artist who started his commercial career in 1933. He was well known throughout his career for the voluptuous figures and attractive faces of his images. This poster is one of those great pin-up style images created by DeVorss. Alone among the pin-up artists in being entirely self-taught, Billy De Vorss sold his first three published pin-ups to the Louis F. Dow Calendar Company in St. Paul in about 1933. Until that time, he had been working as a teller in a bank in St. Joseph, Missouri. There, he met the stunning woman Glenna, who became his wife and first official model. Encouraged to develop his talent by Gene Sayles, the manager of Brown and Bigelow...

Picasso 1957 original exhibition poster Pâtes Blanches: Empreintes Originales
Located in PARIS, FR
The 1957 original exhibition poster titled Pâtes Blanches: Empreintes Originales éditées par Madoura et Gravures Rares by Pablo Picasso is a significant piece that reflects the artist's deep involvement with ceramic art and printmaking during that period. The poster was created to promote an exhibition at Galerie 65 in Cannes, France, showcasing Picasso’s ceramics and rare engravings, with a particular focus on his work with pâtes blanches, or white clay. By the late 1940s, Picasso had become increasingly involved with ceramics, producing a vast number of pieces at the Madoura pottery studio in Vallauris, France. The studio, owned by Georges and Suzanne Ramié, became a creative haven for Picasso, where he could explore new forms of expression beyond painting and sculpture. His work with ceramics brought forth a unique blend of classical forms and modernist abstraction, often infusing traditional pottery with his distinctive artistic style. The term pâtes blanches refers to the white earthenware clay that Picasso used for creating his ceramic pieces. This material allowed him to experiment with various textures and finishes, which he combined with his characteristic line work and engraving techniques. The poster advertises this innovative work, highlighting the original prints and rare engravings that were part of the exhibition. The exhibition at Galerie 65 in Cannes ran throughout the summer of 1957 and offered art lovers and collectors the opportunity to view and acquire some of Picasso's rarest ceramic works and prints. It was a testament to Picasso's versatility as an artist, showcasing his ability to transcend different mediums while maintaining the boldness and originality that defined his career. The poster itself, with Picasso's handwritten details and a depiction of one of his engravings, serves as both a promotional tool and a work of art in its own right. It reflects Picasso's personal touch and his deep connection to the work he produced during this period. Today, this exhibition poster remains a coveted item for collectors of Picasso’s works and 20th-century art, representing a unique moment in Picasso's extensive and varied artistic journey. Original Poster Exhibition - Galerie 65 Cannes...

Aventurine (Edition D'Artiste)
Located in New York, NY
Amaranth Ehrenhalt (American, 1928 - )," Aventurine", Edition D'Artiste, Abstract Expressionist Colored Lithograph signed in Pencil , 30 x 22, Late 20th Century, ca. 1970 Colors: Red, Blue, Purple, Green, Blue Amaranth Roslyn Ehrenhalt is an American painter, sculptor, and writer, who spent the majority of her career living and working in Paris, France. Ehrenhalt is one of the few abstract expressionists from the New York School of the 1950s who is still active today. She now lives and works in New York City. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Amaranth was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a child, she expressed a passion for art, and by the age of twelve, Amaranth was enrolled in a Saturday morning program for artistically gifted children at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, followed a few years later by art classes at Fleisher Art Memorial. Amaranth Ehrenhalt graduated from Olney High School in 1945, and went on to study for one year at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Arts (now known as the University of Arts, Philadelphia), after which, she was awarded an Honors Scholarship to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. While attending PAFA, she simultaneously earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania studying French, English, Psychology, and Art History. From 1949-1951, Amaranth completed additional studies in Art Appreciation via the Barnes Foundation, attending classes afternoon per week. Amaranth Ehrenhalt lived in New York City during the heyday of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism. She is officially recognized as part of the second wave of American Abstract Expressionists. She socialized with Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline, among others. Her social life revolved around the Cedar Tavern on University Place. Describing life in her fourth floor Greenwich Village walk-up, Amaranth states: “I painted on the floor, not by choice a la Jackson Pollock but for lack of a table. The painter Al Held and sculptor Ronnie Bladen worked at the Door Store and, upon hearing of my predicament, carried a wooden door up four flights of stairs and plopped it on top of the bathtub. From then on, I could work at a more comfortable height.” Amaranth Ehrenhalt traveled to Paris for the first time in the early 1950s, one of many moves between Paris, Philadelphia, and New York. (Amaranth has also lived in Los Angeles, Rome, and Pietrasanta, Italy). Amaranth lived and worked in France and Italy for over 30 years. “I have lived many years in Italy and France and was privileged to know, and sometimes exhibit with many writers and artists who have greatly contributed to modern art, i.e. Giacometti, Sonia Delaunay, who invited me to choose my paint supplies...

Fine Art Prints for Sale — Animal Prints, Abstract Prints, Nude Prints and Other Prints

Decorating with fine art prints — whether they’re figurative prints, abstract prints or another variety — has always been a practical way of bringing a space to life as well as bringing works by an artist you love into your home.

Pursued in the 1960s and ’70s, largely by Pop artists drawn to its associations with mass production, advertising, packaging and seriality, as well as those challenging the primacy of the Abstract Expressionist brushstroke, printmaking was embraced in the 1980s by painters and conceptual artists ranging from David Salle and Elizabeth Murray to Adrian Piper and Sherrie Levine.

Printmaking is the transfer of an image from one surface to another. An artist takes a material like stone, metal, wood or wax, carves, incises, draws or otherwise marks it with an image, inks or paints it and then transfers the image to a piece of paper or other material.

Fine art prints are frequently confused with their more commercial counterparts. After all, our closest connection to the printed image is through mass-produced newspapers, magazines and books, and many people don’t realize that even though prints are editions, they start with an original image created by an artist with the intent of reproducing it in a small batch. Fine art prints are created in strictly limited editions — 20 or 30 or maybe 50 — and are always based on an image created specifically to be made into an edition.

Many people think of revered Dutch artist Rembrandt as a painter but may not know that he was a printmaker as well. His prints have been preserved in time along with the work of other celebrated printmakers such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol. These fine art prints are still highly sought after by collectors.

“It’s another tool in the artist’s toolbox, just like painting or sculpture or anything else that an artist uses in the service of mark making or expressing him- or herself,” says International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) vice president Betsy Senior, of New York’s Betsy Senior Fine Art, Inc.

Because artist’s editions tend to be more affordable and available than his or her unique works, they’re more accessible and can be a great opportunity to bring a variety of colors, textures and shapes into a space.

For tight corners, select small fine art prints as opposed to the oversized bold piece you’ll hang as a focal point in the dining area. But be careful not to choose something that is too big for your space. And feel free to lean into it if need be — not every work needs picture-hanging hooks. Leaning a larger fine art print against the wall behind a bookcase can add a stylish installation-type dynamic to your living room. (Read more about how to arrange wall art here.)
