Fred Bernstein studied architecture at Princeton University, and though he has never practiced architecture the subject continues to absorb him. He has written hundreds of articles, mostly on architecture and design, for the New York Times, and hundreds more for other publications. He is the 2009 winner of the Oculus Award, given each year by the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects for excellence in architecture writing.
